Thunder 2 footrest: from measurements to a 3D model

How we design a custom footrest for the Dualtron Thunder 2 in Fusion 360: measurements, iterations, chamfers and an LED channel.

Our first custom-part project started with a simple idea: replace the original Dualtron Thunder 2 footrest with a more distinctive part designed for track use.

Measure before you design

A custom part starts with accurate measurements: width, height, thickness and, most importantly, mounting-hole spacing. It is the least glamorous step, but the most important. A hole that is just a few millimetres out can make the part impossible to fit.

Iterating in Fusion 360

The model is parametric: every dimension is a variable. We were able to try different proportions, adjust the height and thickness, and reposition the mounting holes without redrawing the part.

Some versions were rejected because they just did not look right. A part must be functional, but it should also look right on the scooter.

Design decisions

Next step

The prototype.
